Meet Dr. Diaconu

Dr. Silviu Diaconu is a Harvard-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has been recognized throughout his career for his cutting-edge research, humanism, and leadership: qualities that lead him to achieve outstanding surgical results. Dr. Diaconu graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University and then continued his medical training at Northwestern University, where he was recognized for humanism in medicine. In addition to his training in plastic surgery, Dr. Diaconu completed general surgery residency at George Washington University here in the tri-state area. During his training at GW, he completed a plastic surgery research fellowship with world-renowned surgeons at the Shock Trauma Center of University of Maryland. He has since published numerous articles in top-ranked plastic surgery research journals and has been invited to present his research at national conferences. For his innovative research, Dr. Diaconu was awarded the prestigious Ralph G. DePalma Award. He furthered his career in plastic surgery at the elite Harvard University, working at the internationally top-ranked hospitals Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. At Harvard, he acquired world-class expertise, where he trained alongside leading experts in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Dr. Diaconu was acknowledged by his peers and mentors at the program for his passion, humor, and kindness.

Dr. Diaconu performs a wide range of cosmetic surgical procedures, including face and neck lift, facial implants, facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), mommy makeover, post-bariatric body lift, liposuction, fat transfer (face, breast, buttock), labiaplasty, thigh lift and arm lift. Dr. Diaconu is skilled in complex reconstructive procedures, including breast reconstruction, post-Mohs/skin cancer excision, facial trauma, reconstruction of complex wounds, and scar revision.

Born in Romania and having moved to the United States at the age of 9, Dr. Diaconu has lived throughout the Midwest and Northeast but established roots in the DC area after meeting his wife and starting a family. When not in surgery, Dr. Diaconu enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters, while always looking for opportunities to travel the world.
